TIRUPATI: Endowments minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Friday urged the State government to retain Rapur, Kaluvai and Saidapuram mandals in Nellore district, citing public sentiment and administrative convenience.

Addressing a press conference at his camp office in Nellore along with MLC and district Telugu Desam (TD) president Beda Ravichandra, Anam said he had submitted representations to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the revenue minister and the district collector. He said the request was made on the final day for filing objections to the proposed district reorganisation, based on views expressed by residents of the three mandals.

Anam said Joint Action Committees from Rapur, Kaluvai and Saidapuram had submitted written memoranda opposing any change and seeking their continued inclusion in Nellore district. Drawing on his experience as a former MLA from Rapur and Venkatagiri constituencies, he said retaining the mandals in Nellore would aid smoother administration and balanced regional development. He also sought their inclusion in the Atmakur Revenue Division.

Later, the minister congratulated party leaders who had assumed new responsibilities in the district. He felicitated Ravichandra on taking charge as district TD president, Ch. Venkateswara Reddy as general secretary, and Roop Kumar as Nellore in-charge mayor. He also congratulated leaders from Atmakur selected to the district parliamentary TD committee and those appointed to director-level posts at the State level.

Marking the birth centenary of N. T. Rama Rao, Anam distributed commemorative ₹100 coins issued by the Government of India to members of the district parliamentary TD committee and called upon party workers to draw inspiration from NTR’s leadership.

NDCC Bank chairman Mettukuru Dhanunjaya Reddy, former MLA Kambham Vijayaramireddy and other local leaders were present.
