AMCC a Return Gift for Region That Backed NDA: Lokesh

Lokesh said the sacred land associated with Sri Sathya Sai Baba was now transforming into a new power centre for India’s defence sector.

Anantapur:IT Minister Nara Lokesh has said the establishment of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project and allied defence industries “is a return gift” for the people of the region after it blessed the TD-led alliance with a significant number of MLA and MP seats.

Referring to three senior leaders -- Narendra Modi , Rajnath Singh and Chandrababu Naidu -- who crossed 75 years of age, Lokesh stated the trio were still serving the nation with the youthful spirit of a 25-year-old.

Lokesh said the sacred land associated with Sri Sathya Sai Baba was now transforming into a new power centre for India’s defence sector.

In his speech in Hindi, Lokesh praised the prime minister and the defence minister for great support to AP.

The region gave all the 14 assembly seats to the NDA in the last elections, he noted, and said the government was now giving it a “return gift” in the form of massive industrial investments.

“Earlier it was Kia, now it is fighter jets. Our visionary CM brought automobile manufacturing to this drought-prone region. Now, again, fighter jets will fly from this very land,” Lokesh remarked.

Lokesh said AP had demonstrated the “speed of doing business” within 23 months of the alliance rule, and transformed the region into a preferred investment destination. “The days when we looked at other states with envy are gone. Now other states are looking at Andhra Pradesh’s development with admiration,” he recalled.

He said the new project would create large-scale employment opportunities for local youth and position the region as an export hub for defence equipment in the future.
