Amaravati Capital to Serve as Growth Engine for AP

State to achieve goal of a 2.4 trillion dollar economy by 2047: CM

Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asserted that Amaravati will soon evolve into a “nerve centre” for education, employment and knowledge-driven growth.

Amaravati, he said, would position itself as a model capital for the country. “Amaravati is unstoppable with the passing of a bill on Amaravati capital in Parliament,” he observed and termed this as a victory of the five crore people in their push for a people's capital.

Naidu asserted that with the improvements in infrastructure, development is possible, and expressed the hope that by 2047, the state would be a 2.4 trillion dollars economy and Amaravati as its capital serve as a growth engine grinding in that direction.

The CM said that alongside Amaravati, the government is also focusing on the development of Visakhapatnam and Tirupati to ensure balanced regional growth. He expressed confidence that once core infrastructure is completed, development would move on “auto-pilot,” citing global examples of cities that flourished under similar models.

Celebrating the occasion by distributing sweets at his camp office on Friday, and later speaking to the media, the CM said all the 50 parties – except the YSRC-- extended support to the Amaravati capital bill in parliament, aimed at providing legal status to Amaravati capital.

He expressed surprise over YSRC parliamentarians opposing the bill even as they had got elected from Andhra Pradesh. “Yet, they failed to protect and honour the interests and sentiments of the people,” he averred.

Naidu thanked prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and MPs of all parties including Loke Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha chairman for their timely support to Amaravati.

The CM said the YSRC started opposing Amaravati from the beginning and hatched conspiracies to prevent its development as state capital by advocating a three capitals formula.

“Their efforts to create hurdles for Amaravati are going on. But no one can stop the development of Amaravati. Major works will be completed by 2028. The prime minister will inaugurate major projects of Amaravati capital in 2029,” he said.

He said state governments ruled by regional parties should honour the bills passed in Parliament. He expressed surprise over the remarks of YSRC leaders that they would change the capital if they came to power again.

“The YSRC government failed to raise the issues of state bifurcation and pushed the state into a huge debt trap by mortgaging government properties during its five-year-rule,” Naidu said.

“After the present government came to power, despite financial constraints, we are focusing more on development and welfare, balancing them each other with short term, mid-term and long term planning,” he asserted.
