Amaravati Bill Passage Boosts Naidu’s Vision for AP
With Parliament’s approval now secured, the state government would move ahead with greater clarity and momentum, positioning Amaravati as the state’s administrative and economic nerve centre.

Vijayawada: The passage of the Amaravati Bill in the Lok Sabha has come as a significant political and administrative boost for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, marking a crucial milestone in his long-standing vision of developing Amaravati as the state’s sole capital.
The development is being viewed as a “shot in the arm” for Naidu, who has consistently championed the cause of a unified capital for Andhra Pradesh.
With Parliament’s approval now secured, the state government would move ahead with greater clarity and momentum, positioning Amaravati as the state’s administrative and economic nerve centre.
The CM has repeatedly asserted that the decision aligned with the understanding reached when the NDA was formed with the Telugu Desam as a lead partner in AP.
Naidu is likely to leverage the passage of the Bill in parliament to assert that the Telugu Desam acted in the “best interest” of the people.
The opposition YSRC may find itself on the backfoot, having delayed the development of a capital during its term.
According to Naidu, the agreement with the NDA clearly envisaged Amaravati as the single capital of the state, putting to rest the uncertainty that had prevailed over the capital issue in recent years. The passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha is thus the realisation of another major ambition of the TD chief.
Political observers note that the move would strengthen investor confidence and accelerate developmental activities in Amaravati. The clarity on the capital status is expected to pave the way for infrastructure growth, institutional investment, and administrative consolidation.
During the period between 2019 and 2024, several development projects in Amaravati remained stalled, with partially constructed buildings dotting the region. The stagnation drew criticism from various quarters while the lack of clarity adversely affected investor confidence and regional growth.
The ruling alliance in the state — comprising the Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party — is expected to leverage the bill’s passage as a significant political achievement. Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan and BJP leaders have extended strong support to Naidu’s vision, reinforcing the NDA’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
For Naidu, this marks the realisation of a major political commitment. Drawing from his experience in transforming Hyderabad into a major IT hub, he has articulated an ambitious blueprint for Amaravati as a world-class capital city, focusing on cutting-edge sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, alongside sustainable and low-pollution urban planning.
Since returning to power in 2024, Naidu has accelerated efforts to revive and expand the capital city project. The AP Capital Region Development Authority has initiated works worth over Rs.90,000 crore, signalling a renewed push towards infrastructure creation.
In addition to the 34,241 acres of land pooled from farmers, the government is now planning to acquire an additional 30,000 acres to further expand the capital region. Proposals for an international airport and a major railway junction are also on the anvil, aimed at boosting connectivity and economic activity.
