Amalaguda Villagers Seek Drinking Water Under Jal Jeevan Mission
The villagers depend on a natural spring on the lower slopes of their settlement for drinking water

Visakhapatnam: Residents of Amalaguda, a small village in Ananthagiri panchayat of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, are continuing to struggle for basic amenities including drinking water.
The villagers depend on a natural spring on the lower slopes of their settlement for drinking water. Although authorities initiated a gravity-based water supply scheme for the village under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the project stopped midway due to a shortage of pipes.
As a result, residents have to climb the steep mountain terrain daily to fetch water, a task that is both exhausting and hazardous. As the water is untreated, it leads to frequent health problems. Fellow villagers have to carry severely ill residents in dolis – makeshift stretchers – to the Ananthagiri Medical Centre for treatment.
Residents are now appealing to authorities for a safe drinking water facility without further delay. Villagers, including Korra Gopi, Korra Radha, and Korra Kausalya, have called upon officials to immediately resume work on the Jal Jeevan Mission. They say completing the stalled scheme is critical for alleviating their suffering.
