AIIMS Mangalagiri Marks NRP Day With Training Sessions

The programme was part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Neonatology Forum to strengthen newborn resuscitation skills and reduce neonatal mortality

VIJAYAWADA: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri observed National Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) Day on Sunday with training sessions and awareness activities under the theme “One Day, One Nation, One Mission.”

The programme was part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Neonatology Forum to strengthen newborn resuscitation skills and reduce neonatal mortality.

Medical experts said nearly 40 per cent of neonatal deaths in India occur within the first 24 hours after birth, while birth asphyxia accounts for around 15 to 20 per cent of such deaths.

Doctors stressed that many newborn deaths could be prevented through quality antenatal care, strict intrapartum monitoring as per World Health Organization (WHO) protocols, and availability of trained healthcare providers skilled in bag and mask ventilation during deliveries.

As part of the programme, AIIMS Mangalagiri organised hands-on newborn resuscitation training sessions for doctors and nursing officers to improve emergency response during childbirth.

The event was attended by AIIMS Director Ahanthem Santa Singh, Dean Prof. Desu Ramamohan, neonatologist Dr Mandula Phani Priya and other faculty members, paediatricians and nursing officers.
