AIIMS Land Hurdle Cleared, Guntur Road Works Get Push

Vijayawada: A key land hurdle for the proposed NH-16 Road Extension Corridor (E-13) in the Mangalagiri-Guntur corridor has been cleared, with the Union health ministry giving in-principle approval to allot 3.34 acres of AIIMS Mangalagiri land for the road project.
Union minister of state for rural development and communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said the ministry had asked the district administration to expedite the allotment of 10 acres of alternative land to AIIMS in lieu of the land required for the road.
He said the Centre, state government and district administration were coordinating to resolve the issue. Officials had also been asked to complete the demarcation and hand over another 6.04 acres pending from the nearly 183 acres allotted to AIIMS Mangalagiri.
Pemmasani inspected the Mahatma Gandhi Inner Ring Road Phase-3 works from Shilparamam to Pedapalakaluru along with MLA Boorla Ramanjaneyulu, Guntur Municipal commissioner K. Mayur Ashok and officials.

He said some portions of the road would have to be raised, requiring the shifting of high-tension wires at an estimated additional cost of `2–3 crore. Additional culverts would also be required at NSP Canal crossings to ensure uninterrupted water flow, costing ₹10–15 lakh each. The contractor had been asked to incorporate the additional works into the ongoing project wherever possible.
Pemmasani said the Inner Ring Road should eventually be extended to Perecherla Junction through a proposed railway overbridge. The proposed ₹15–20 crore extension would provide direct connectivity to Amaravati for people from Palnadu, he said, adding that a letter had been addressed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and approval was awaited.
On Guntur Channel Extension compensation, Pemmasani said five CFMS bills totalling `17.09 crore had been prepared as the fourth instalment for 51 farmers from Garapadu, Prattipadu, Mallayapalem, Kondepadu and Ravipadu. Another `14 crore in pending compensation would be released soon, he said.
He said efforts were being made to ensure that all farmers who surrendered land received their dues and that Phase-1 works progressed with their cooperation.
