AIDWA Protests Against Liquor Sales at Beach Shacks in Vizag
The speakers expressed concern that liquor sales at beaches could affect women’s safety and family life. They also linked alcohol and substance abuse to domestic violence, financial distress and disruption of education.

Visakhapatnam: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Saturday staged a protest rally near the Kali Mata Temple at RK Beach, opposing the government’s decision to permit liquor sales at beach shacks along the Visakhapatnam coastline.
Raising slogans against the move, AIDWA members said beaches should remain safe and family-friendly public spaces. The rally was attended by women, activists and community members.
AIDWA state vice-president B. Prabhavati, district president R.N. Madhavi, secretary Y. Satyavati and district vice-president B. Padma alleged that the decision was driven by revenue considerations rather than public welfare.
The speakers expressed concern that liquor sales at beaches could affect women’s safety and family life. They also linked alcohol and substance abuse to domestic violence, financial distress and disruption of education.
The organisation further contended that permitting liquor sales at beach shacks could aggravate drug-related issues and lead to environmental degradation through plastic waste and discarded bottles.
AIDWA demanded immediate withdrawal of the beach shack policy, a ban on liquor sales near beaches, stricter action against illegal liquor outlets and drug trafficking, and stronger measures to protect women and youth.
The organisation said it would continue its agitation until the decision is revoked.
District office-bearers D. Kondamma, R. Varalakshmi, Ch. Sumitra, B. Ramani, V. Prabhavathi, K. Kumari, D. Ramanamma, Mounika, Aruna, B. Satyavathi, Mangaveni and Devi participated in the rally. District Library Organisation Chairman B.L. Narayana, staff of Krishna Maternity Hospital and a large number of women also took part in the protest.
