AI Opening New Frontiers In Biomedical Research: IIT Guwahati Professor

Artificial intelligence (AI) is creating new opportunities in medical research by enhancing biomedical data analysis: Reports

VIJAYAWADA: Artificial intelligence (AI) is creating new opportunities in medical research by enhancing biomedical data analysis, disease diagnosis and the interpretation of medical information, IIT Guwahati biotechnology professor Dr Venkata Dasu Veeranki said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of AI4BioMed-26, a five-day national-level workshop and hackathon organised by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Vignan’s University in Vadlamudi village of Chebrolu mandal, Guntur district. The event, themed ‘Artificial Intelligence for Biomedical Data’, features three days of hands-on training followed by a two-day Bio-AI hackathon.
Dr Veeranki said biotechnology, bioinformatics, data science and AI were rapidly advancing through their growing interconnection

He urged students to move beyond theoretical knowledge, identify real-world problems and develop technology-driven solutions.
Such workshops and hackathons help nurture research aptitude, creativity and teamwork among students, he said, stressing the importance of integrating modern technologies into medical and biological research.
The hackathon features four tracks: digital pathology, large language model-based biomedical agents, single-cell and spatial data, and an open category

Participants will gain practical exposure to AI applications in medical image analysis, tissue sample studies and tumour detection.
Keshava Mullati, founder and CEO of SecuAI Solutions, is serving as a judge for the hackathon. Cash prizes totalling Rs 10,000 will be awarded to outstanding teams.
