AHUDA Reorganised; 5 ULBs, 26 Mandals Excluded

The reorganisation has been taken up to streamline administration, ensure coordinated urban development and improve spatial planning and management of urban and peri-urban areas.

Anantapur: The state government has reorganised the jurisdiction of the Anantapur-Hindupur Urban Development Authority (AHUDA), excluding five urban local bodies (ULBs) and 26 mandals from its existing development area of Anantapur and Satya Sai districts.

According to G.O.Ms.No.197 issued by the municipal administration and urban development department on Monday, the authority will be renamed as the Anantapur Urban Development Authority (ATP UDA). The reorganisation has been taken up to streamline administration, ensure coordinated urban development and improve spatial planning and management of urban and peri-urban areas.

AHUDA was originally constituted in 2017 with Anantapur Municipal Corporation, Hindupur and Dharmavaram municipalities, covering 180 villages in 18 mandals over 3,120.05 sq km. Its limits were subsequently modified through several government orders. The restructuring of Anantapur district in 2022 also necessitated a realignment of the urban development authority’s jurisdiction.

The five ULBs excluded from AHUDA are Dharmavaram, Hindupur, Kadiri, Madakasira and Penukonda, all in Sri Sathya Sai district. The 26 excluded mandals include Agali, Amarapuram, Bathalapalle, Chilamathur, Chennekothapalle, Dharmavaram, Gandlapenta, Gorantla, Gudibanda, Hindupur, Kadiri, Kanaganapalle, Lepakshi, Madakasira, Mudigubba, Nallacheruvu, Nambulapulikunta, Parigi, Penukonda, Ramagiri, Roddam, Rolla, Somandepalle, Tadimarri, Talupula and Tanakal.

The reorganised ATP UDA will comprise six ULBs — Anantapur Municipal Corporation, Rayadurg, Kalyandurgam, Tadipatri, Gooty and Guntakal — along with 31 full mandals. The new jurisdiction will cover 507 revenue villages spread across 10,205 sq km.

The government notification will take effect from the date of its publication in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette. The vice-chairperson of the Anantapur Urban Development Authority has been directed to take further necessary action.
