Actress Jethwani Claims Innocence in Extortion Case
She vowed to continue her legal battle to establish her innocence.
Vijayawada:Mumbai actress Kadambari Jethwani claimed she was innocent and did no wrong in response to the AP CID’s revised chargesheet naming her as the prime accused in an extortion case.
In a statement released to the media on Wednesday, she rejected the charges and maintained that she was the victim of an illegal arrest and the police harassment.
YSRC leader Kukkala Vidya Sagar had lodged a complaint at Ibrahimpatnam police station on February 2, 2024 alleging that the actress blackmailed him and resorted to extortion. She alleged that the then Vijayawada police commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata implicated her in the case illegally and subjected her to harassment.
She alleged that an amount of Rs 4.5 lakh deposited in her bank account was publicised wrongly as Rs 1.32 crore.
She claimed that the revised charge sheet was an attempt to change the narrative after she had accused senior police officers of illegally arresting her and harassing her. She reiterated that she and her family members were unlawfully detained and subjected to harassment.
She vowed to continue her legal battle to establish her innocence.
As the charge sheet on her was filed in a city court, the CID filed a petition seeking permission to withdraw the names of her parents and brother as accused and the court directed it to serve a notice to the petitioner. The hearing in the matter was adjourned to July 29.
