Actor Krishna Statue Unveiled in Vijayawada

Several public representatives and film personalities were present at the event

VIJAYAWADA: Minister for mines, geology and excise Kollu Ravindra on Sunday described legendary actor Krishna as the “beloved son and eternal pride of the Telugu people” while unveiling his statue at Lenin Centre in Vijayawada.

The minister said Krishna’s name would live on as long as the Telugu people existed. Recalling the actor’s popularity, he said Krishna had a towering screen presence and reminded audiences of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. He added that Krishna shared a special bond with several generations of Telugu film stars and that moviegoers once flocked to theatres simply on seeing his posters.

AP Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Raghurama Krishnam Raju said no other star could match Krishna, who acted in around 350 films in a relatively short career.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath recalled Krishna’s close association with the city and said the film Eenaadu, shot in Vijayawada, had changed the course of politics in the state.

Several public representatives and film personalities were present at the event.
