Visakhapatnam: Vizianagaram superintendent of police, Vakul Jindal, on Sunday announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man accused of attempting to murder an 18-year-old woman at Sivaram village in Garividi mandal. The arrest was made within hours of the crime, following a swift and coordinated response by the police.
The SP, at press meet, said that the arrested, identified as Burili Adinarayana, allegedly attacked Kondru Akhila with a knife while she was engaged in household chores in her house on April 5. On hearing her screams, locals rushed to her rescue, prompting the accused to flee the spot.
The injured girl was initially taken to Cheepurupalli hospital and later shifted to a corporate hospital in Vizianagaram for better treatment.
“We immediately formed five special teams and apprehended the suspect. The clues team and dog squad were deployed to collect technical evidence from the crime scene,”
said SP Jindal.
The accused admitted that he knew the victim as a friend of his brothers and had previously considered her like a sister. But, the relationship reportedly turned sour over allegations involving inappropriate messages on Instagram.
