NELLORE: In a step towards improving public amenities and ensuring equal access, Nellore Municipal Corporation has opened five air-conditioned (AC) bus shelters in Nellore Rural constituency on Thursday.
These shelters aim to provide relief from the sweltering summer heat to all sections of the society, particularly senior citizens, children, pregnant women and differently abled individuals.
In a symbolic gesture, differently abled citizens Syed Khadar Basha of 26th Division and Manda Sukumar of the 33rd Division inaugurated the AC bus shelter at Ayyappa Gudi Centre in the presence of Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and TDP leader Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy.
The gesture highlights the government's commitment to accessible infrastructure for the underserved and vulnerable.
TDP leader Giridhar Reddy, former mayor Bhanushree and Nellore Municipal Corporation additional commissioner Nandan expressed satisfaction over revival of the long-neglected bus shelters.
Giridhar Reddy pointed out that the previous YSR Congress government had left the shelters unused, allowing them to deteriorate. However, with support from Urban Development minister Ponguru Narayana, the coalition government has reconstructed and brought these shelters back into public service.
“These shelters are not just cooling spots; they are a symbol of responsive governance. They ensure our people, especially the vulnerable, are protected during extreme temperatures,” Giridhar Reddy underlined, asking public to maintain the shelters responsibly.
On behalf of Nellore Rural people, the TD leader extended gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, minister Nara Lokesh, and the city administration for their support in facilitating these development works.
