ABVP Protests JSSC Exam Row, Burns Soren Effigy

ABVP activists in Vijayawada protested alleged irregularities and a paper leak in the JSSC CGL exam, demanding its cancellation and a CBI probe.

The Vijayawada unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday staged a protest against alleged irregularities and question paper leaks in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination and burnt an effigy of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren at Dharna Chowk in Gandhi Nagar.

ABVP state secretary Yaganti Venkata Gopi said students and unemployed youth in Jharkhand had been protesting for 21 days over the alleged examination irregularities. He condemned the police lathi-charge on students who had called for a ‘Chalo Vidhan Sabha’ protest.

Gopi demanded immediate cancellation of the JSSC examination and a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities and paper leak. He appealed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whom he described as a young leader, to support the protesting students and seek justice for them.

He termed the police action a brutal and ineffective response by the Jharkhand government and held the Chief Minister responsible for the alleged question paper leak. He demanded Mr Soren’s resignation and warned that the ABVP would launch a nationwide agitation if the demands were not addressed.

ABVP city secretary Rishi, vice-presidents Jai Sai and Pawan, and activists participated.
