ANANTAPUR: The Kadapa district administration has issued an alert after a Class 7 student from a social welfare hostel in Sambepalli mandal tested positive for scrub typhus.
According to officials, the boy had been suffering from fever, cold and cough at the hostel until November 28 and was treated by local doctors. As his condition did not improve, his parents took him to their native village, Pedda Bidiki, where he continued to receive treatment from a private practitioner. However, the symptoms persisted.
Medical tests conducted on December 9 at Ruya Hospital in Tirupati confirmed scrub typhus. Following the diagnosis, health authorities organised medical camps in the student’s native village and collected blood samples from residents reporting fever.
Two professors from Kadapa RIMS also visited Pedda Bidiki village and collected samples from suspected cases, health department officials said. They confirmed that the infection was detected in a student from Sambepalli mandal and said precautionary measures were being taken to prevent further spread.
