Visakhapatnam: The newly installed 65-foot Trishul featuring a Damarukam atop Kailasagiri in Visakhapatnam was inaugurated amid religious fervour and grandeur on Saturday.

Special prayers to Lord Shiva preceded the rituals performed for the Trishul, which now stands as a prominent landmark overlooking the city.

The ceremony was attended by state ministers P. Narayana and Kondapalli Srinivas, MPs M. Sribharat and Kalisetti Appalanaidu, government whip Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, several MLAs, VMRDA chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal and Metropolitan Commissioner N. Tej Bharat, who unveiled the plaque for the installation.

Minister P. Narayana said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been prioritising tourism as a major source of revenue generation and employment. He stated that Kailasagiri is being developed into a major tourism hub.

Minister Kondapalli Srinivas described the Trishul as a dream project of VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal and said it would emerge as an iconic symbol of Visakhapatnam tourism.

MP M. Sribharat said the structure has been strategically positioned so that it is visible from all parts of the city. He added that a master plan is being prepared for the further development of Kailasagiri and noted that the Trishul has been engineered to withstand high-intensity winds.

The hilltop reverberated with chants in praise of Lord Shiva, while cultural performances inspired by the Trishul added to the spiritual atmosphere.

VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal said the installation, undertaken under the guidance of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and IT minister Nara Lokesh, would add spiritual significance to Kailasagiri and transform it into a sacred landmark in addition to being a tourist destination
