623 Poor Patients Selected for Free Treatment at SVIMS

The beneficiaries include poor patients suffering from critical and complex diseases requiring specialised treatment.

Tirupati: As many as 623 economically disadvantaged patients have been selected for free advanced medical treatment and surgical procedures at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati, with financial assistance of about ₹2.20 crore under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Sri Venkateswara Pranadana Trust.

The selection was made at a meeting of the Pranadana Scheme Selection Committee held at SVIMS on Monday under the chairmanship of SVIMS director and vice-chancellor Dr Gudaru Jagadesh.

The beneficiaries include poor patients suffering from critical and complex diseases requiring specialised treatment.

Priority was given to eligible patients from economically weaker sections, including those possessing valid ration cards, as per the scheme guidelines.

Of the 623 beneficiaries, 149 require nephrology treatment, 73 gastroenterology, 64 general surgery, 64 neurology, 51 gynaecology, 41 neurosurgery and 36 cardiology treatment.

Others require cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, urology, ENT and other specialised treatments.

Dr Jagadesh said the assistance would help poor families access costly medical care without facing a heavy financial burden.

He said the Pranadana Trust had been supporting patients unable to afford advanced treatment and appealed to philanthropists, organisations and devotees to contribute to the trust.
