6-Year-Old Electrocuted While Playing Cricket in Vizag

The sudden death of the young boy has left family members, neighbours and friends devastated

Visakhapatnam: A six-year-old boy died of electrocution while playing cricket with his friends in Sai Ram Colony of Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Akhil (6), son of Kuriti Narayana Rao and Chinnammadu. The family, originally from Uppannadavalasa village in Vizianagaram district, has been living in Madhurawada for the past 10 years. Narayana Rao works as a watchman at an apartment complex in Sai Ram Colony, where the family also resides.

According to the inspector of PM Palem Police Station, Akhil was playing cricket on the road in front of the apartment building on Sunday afternoon. While attempting to retrieve a ball that had rolled away during the game, he reportedly came into contact with a hanging earthing wire. The child suffered a severe electric shock and died on the spot.

The inspector said underground power cable work was under way in the area, during which the earthing wire surfaced and had remained hanging for the past four months.

"The earthing wire is meant to protect people from electric shocks. However, in this case, the boy died after coming into contact with it," Inspector Balakrishna said, adding that a case would be registered after an inquiry.

The sudden death of the young boy has left family members, neighbours and friends devastated. Residents expressed concern over exposed and low-hanging electrical wires in residential areas and urged the authorities to take immediate measures to prevent such accidents.
