6 Lakhs Cusecs Floodwaters Discharged From Dowleswaram Barrage

Kakinada:The floodwater levels in River Godavari were receding on Monday. The irrigation department said it discharged 6 lakh cusecs of floodwaters into Bay of Bengal by lifting 175 gates.
The gauge level was recorded at 10.90ft and pond level at 13.99 metres. Officials said 9,250 cusecs of water was discharged to canals of the three deltas. Head works EE, G Srinivas, said the flow of floodwaters started receding.
Meanwhile, the Polavaram project received 6,42,370 cusecs of floodwaters on Monday morning. The inflows receded to 6.21 lakhs on Monday night. The Gandipocahamma temple remained submerged and hence closed.
Officials of Eluru district said the levels in Bhadrachalam were rising. The water level on Monday morning was at 34.30 feet and it rose to 36.30 feet by night. There was no flood threat to Velerupadu and Kukkunuru villages in Eluru district.
Officials said it would take 24 to 36 hours for the floodwaters to reach the Dowleswaram barrage.
