5K Runs Held in Three Godavari Districts for Census Awareness

To create awareness on the Census self-enumeration programme in their respective district headquarters

KAKINADA: District collectors of Kakinada, Eluru and East Godavari organised 5K runs on Sunday to create awareness on the Census self-enumeration programme in their respective district headquarters.

Flagging off the 5K run in Eluru, district collector K. Vetri Selvi said everyone should make use of the self-enumeration facility and complete the process online. She said the Centre had provided citizens the opportunity to undertake self-enumeration through the portal https://se.census.gov.in till April 30.

She explained that basic details such as the name of the head of the household, names of family members, address, housing details, electricity and drinking water facilities could be uploaded online, after which a unique code would be generated. When census enumerators visit homes during the actual exercise, they would use the code to record the remaining details.

The collector said people need not fear that the exercise would affect welfare schemes or benefits, clarifying that it was intended solely for development planning. She also interacted with motorists, RTC passengers and auto passengers to spread awareness. The run was held from the Indoor Stadium to Santhinagaram and back. Joint collector M.J. Abhishek Gowd, district forest officer Sandeep Reddy, trainee collector Sravan Kumar Reddy and others were present.

In Kakinada, district collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad flagged off the 5K run at the Collectorate and urged people to complete self-enumeration without fail, stating that it would help during the Census exercise in February 2027. He added that public representatives in the district had already completed their enrolment on the portal.

In East Godavari, district collector Keerthi Chekuri, along with Rajamahendravaram Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena, flagged off a 5K run from Y Junction to Kotipalli Bus Stand in Rajamahendravaram.

Keerthi Chekuri said a comprehensive and accurate census formed the basis for the nation’s economic planning and that self-enumeration enabled citizens to upload answers to 33 family-related questions online. Rahul Meena said it was the first digital census initiative introduced by the Centre and urged people to make use of it.
