441 Children Undergo Free Surgeries Under RBSK
Health commissioner Chakradhar Babu informed health minister Satya Kumar Yadav about the programme and the medical services being provided to children identified with various health problems.
VIJAYAWADA: As many as 441 children aged between four months and 18 years underwent free surgeries under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) between April and August 19 in Andhra Pradesh, at an estimated cost of ₹2.42 crore.
Health commissioner Chakradhar Babu informed health minister Satya Kumar Yadav about the programme and the medical services being provided to children identified with various health problems.
Under the RBSK, health screening is conducted at anganwadi centres, government and government-aided schools to identify congenital anomalies, diseases, malnutrition, stunted growth and other health issues. Children requiring treatment are referred for medical care and surgery.
According to the health authorities, surgeries performed under the programme included procedures for retinopathy of prematurity, cleft lip and cleft palate, congenital heart diseases and club foot, among other conditions.
For 441 persons, as many as 238 surgeries were performed including 132 related to retinopathy of prematurity, 72 related to cleft lip and cleft palate, 30 for congenital heart diseases, 35 for club foot and others.
