AP: 44 Students Fall Ill In Manyam District

According to reports, the students complained of health issues and were taken to the PHC for medical attention. The exact reason behind their illness is yet to be ascertained

Visakhapatnam: For the second time in a year, 44 girl students of Kurupam Ashram School in Parvathipuram Manyam district fell on Thursday evening, according to the reports from the district. They were shifted to Madaling Primary Health Center where they were undergoing treatment. Three of them were shifted to Kurupam district hospital.

Following instructions from the minister for tribal welfare minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani, medical camps were set up with physicians, pediatrician and general medicine doctors.

``Half of them are showing recovery,’’ said district medical and health officer Dr K Vijayalakshmi.

She said the children fell ill to post cyclone fevers, stomach and headaches common to the season. She said the school has a strength of 516 students and screening was done to most of the students.

The incident has caused anxiety among parents as the same institution had witnessed a major health scare last year, when several students fell ill, two students died of jaundice and some required hospitalization.

Reports said last year on October 14, 146 students fell in the same Kurupam Gurukul residential school for girls and of these, 65 girls were admitted to KGH for better treatment. Due to experienced doctors treatment 59 students have fully recovered and returned home.

Parents demanded an inquiry into the frequent incidents of illness among the girls in the same school.
