4 Youths Resort to Chain-Snatching For Luxury Lifestyle, Held
Police said some of the accused were involved in previous theft cases

TIRUPATI: Four youths, who allegedly took to chain-snatching to fund a lavish lifestyle were arrested by Tirupati district police and stolen gold jewellery worth about ₹17 lakh was recovered from them.
The accused, all from Naidupet mandal, allegedly targeted women travelling alone and escaped on two-wheelers after snatching their gold chains.
Additional SP (Crimes) A. Srinivasulu said special teams were formed following a spate of incidents. Acting on surveillance inputs, police detained the accused near Peddapariya Cross Road in Ozili mandal.
Police recovered six gold chains, a gold ear ornament and 128 grams of gold jewellery, besides seizing two motorbikes used in the crimes.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to eight chain-snatching offences within the limits of Ozili, Naidupeta, Chittamur, Balayapalli and Kota police stations. Police said some of the accused were involved in previous theft cases.
Superintendent of police L. Subba Rayudu warned of strict action against those resorting to crime for easy money and luxury living.
