4 held for planning to kill boars using bombs

The arrested have been identified as Mohan Rao, Trinadh, Simhachalam, and Jagannadham all residents of Seethampeta and Sarubujjili mandals in Srikakulam district.

Visakhapatnam: Four persons who planned to use crude bombs coated with corn flour and sugar to lure and hunt wild boars for meat were nabbed by forest department officials between Yeragam and Telikipenta villages in Sarubujjili mandal, Srikakulam district.

The arrested have been identified as Mohan Rao, Trinadh, Simhachalam, and Jagannadham all residents of Seethampeta and Sarubujjili mandals in Srikakulam district.

Pathapatnam Forest Range Officer P. Ammana Naidu said they seized 19 crude bombs, a bike, and torchlights from the four.

Naidu said some people in parts of the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) prepare crude bombs coated with corn flour and other substances to disguise them as edible items, which attract wild boars. He added that the hunting of wild boars tends to increase during local festivals in the AOB region.

The poachers would throw crude bombs near farms and forest areas. Mistaking the bomb for food, the wild boars would bite it, triggering an explosion.

A few months ago, a woman farmer, B. Lakshmi, suffered severe injuries when a crude bomb planted near a farm field by poachers exploded at Gollapeta locality under Jami mandal in Vizianagaram district.
