3 Vijayawada Hotels Fined for Hygiene Violations

Vijayawada:Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has fined three hotels of ₹5,000 each for violations related to hygiene and public health during inspections that it carried out in the city on Friday.
Acting on directions of VMC commissioner H.M. Dhyana Chandra, public health officials inspected Sweet Magic, Taj Hotel, Hotel Sai Sarovar, and Mangamma Khichdi Centre in the Canal Road area of Ward 37.
Officials found several lapses, particularly in the kitchens, including absence of tiles, mould on walls and other surfaces, unhygienic walls, uncovered food items and unsanitary surroundings.
Officials found that quality drinking water is not being used at some of the establishments. Inadequate toilet facilities, poor maintenance of toilets, and food being prepared and sold in unhygienic conditions are among other violations.
The civic body issued notices to managements of the hotels, directed them to rectify the deficiencies within the stipulated deadline, and comply with hygiene and public health regulations.
VMC has warned that failure to rectify shortcomings would invite further legal action. It cautioned that trade licences could be cancelled, if necessary, in case of continued violations.
Public health officials have advised owners and operators of hotels, restaurants, and food outlets across the city to maintain hygiene standards and ensure safe drinking water and quality food for customers.
The VMC inspection team comprised Circle-1 sanitary supervisor D. Somaraju, sanitary inspectors B. Yogendra Kumar and M. Ravishankar, and other public health department staff.
