2,500 Electric, CNG Buses to Join Fleet by 2031: MD Krishna Babu
MD noted that 80% of passengers were satisfied with RTC services, while 20% highlighted issues with toilets, drinking water facilities, and driver behaviour.

Vijayawada: APSRTC plans to introduce 2,500 electric and CNG buses under the PM e-Bus scheme in Andhra Pradesh over the next five years.
APSRTC’s new vice chairman and managing director, M.T. Krishna Babu, held a review meeting with the executive directors, heads of departments, and district public transport officers here on Monday, soon after assuming charge. Speaking on the occasion, the RTC MD stated that they were developing a comprehensive plan to introduce 1,050 electric buses and an additional 1,450 electric and CNG buses.
Regarding the Stree Shakti scheme, the MD said that, on average, 23-25 lakh women passengers were availing of free travel per day. In the state, the scheme increased women’s share to 65%-67% and the occupancy ratio to nearly 90%, strengthening the APSRTC’s financial stability. In the IVRS survey, the MD noted that 80% of passengers were satisfied with RTC services, while 20% highlighted issues with toilets, drinking water facilities, and driver behaviour.
He instructed the officials to address these issues immediately. The MD discussed further strengthening non-fare revenue with senior officials, noting that the RTC was earning about Rs 210 crore per annum by commercialising vacant RTC lands and expanding cargo services. He announced to release Rs 3,000 crore in a phased manner to improve transport infrastructure related to the development of roads at a stretch of 10,700 km. The MD directed the officials to improve efficiency in public transport operations and ensure better service to passengers.
