230 Kg Ganja Seized In Smuggling Bust In Vizianagaram

Visakhapatnam: Vizianagaram police busted a drug trafficking racket on NH-26 near Pedamanapuram Railway Gate and seized nearly 230 kg of the contraband and arrested two persons. Three other accused are at large.
The arrested individuals were identified as Ghasiram Hantal, 24, and Karan Khillo, 24, from Jhaliyaguda village of Koraput district.
The three others -- Suresh Adakatia, Anil and Junnesh managed to escape the arrest.
The operation was carried out by Pedamanapuram police on Sunday evening following a tip-off.
The police seized 44 packets of ganja, two vehicles, three mobile phones and cash totaling Rs 700 from the smugglers.
According to police, the accused were traveling from Salur towards Vizianagaram when they spotted the police checkpoint.
Upon seeing the police, all five in the two vehicles abandoned their cars and attempted to flee. However, the police managed to nab two of them. inspector G.A.V. Ramana of Gajapathinagaram circle, who took over the investigation, revealed that both accused have criminal backgrounds.
Ghasiram Hantal has seven bike theft cases registered against him at Jaipur police station in Koraput district, while Khillo for drug transportation.
The investigation disclosed that the accused had formed a criminal network to transport ganja for easy money to fund their daily needs.
They had loaded the drug packets in the Pottangi area of Odisha and were transporting them to Visakhapatnam via Salur when they were arrested.
A case was registered and both arrested have been sent to judicial remand and a hunt was on for the absconding persons.
