₹23 Crore Investment To Strengthen Nellore Power Infrastructure
Nellore district is adding 22 power transformers at a cost of ₹23 crore to meet rising electricity demand and improve supply reliability.
The power supply infrastructure in Nellore district is being strengthened to meet growing electricity demand, with 22 new power transformers being installed at a cost of `23 crore, officials said.
Transformers executive engineer V.V. Lakshminarayana said an 8 MVA power transformer, costing `68 lakh, had been installed at the IE Section in Nellore Town division, replacing a 7.5 MVA unit.
Of the 22 transformers being installed during 2025-26, five will be added in Nellore Town, six in Kavali, four in Nellore Rural, two in Gudur, and one each in Kovur and Atmakur divisions.
Officials are also focusing on reducing transformer downtime through Specific Preventive Maintenance (SPM) sheds at Nellore, Gudur, Kavali and Atmakur. Failed transformers are being repaired and returned to service quickly, with staff working extended hours to restore supply.
Priority is being given to transformers serving drinking water schemes and agricultural needs. Field engineers have been instructed to prevent overloading, identify the causes of transformer failures and ensure adequate oil levels.
Superintending engineer P. Sudhakar appreciated the staff for strengthening the infrastructure in anticipation of rising demand and for the speedy repair and replacement of failed transformers.
