222 E-Waste Collection Centres to Be Set Up in AP
The minister said 222 e-waste collection centres would be run across the state. Local women’s groups will also be involved. The centres would operate not just on Swachh Diwas but other days too to facilitate regular disposal of e-waste.

Vijayawada: Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana has said the year-long Swachh Andhra-Swachh Diwas (Clean Andhra, Clean Day) programme would be turned into a major success. The initiative that began in January this year has specific themes for each of the 12 months. For this month, the event would focus on the theme E-Check.
Narayana conducted a teleconference with municipal commissioners and called for successful implementation of the programme. Stressing the importance of cleanliness, he said such events would be held every third Saturday of the month. The minister would participate in the cleanliness programme in Nellore.
He said all electronic waste from shops and households should be collected without fail. The plan is to convert the existing RRR (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) centres in municipalities into dedicated e-waste collection centres and entrust their operation to women drawn from self-help groups under MEPMA.
Explaining the E-Check theme, he said electronic waste such as broken mobile phones, televisions, and other devices must be collected from urban and rural households and shops. These would be brought to the newly designated e-waste collection centres and reused with the help of partnering companies. The e-wastes collected from homes and shops would be bought from the public and a cash payment made to them.
The minister said 222 e-waste collection centres would be run across the state. Local women’s groups will also be involved. The centres would operate not just on Swachh Diwas but other days too to facilitate regular disposal of e-waste.
Narayana said the initiative aimed to make the entire state fully clean. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had participated in the events across various districts in the past three months.
The minister stressed the need for collaboration, urging municipal commissioners as also officials from all departments and the general public to get involved. They must work in coordination with local MLAs.
Municipal administration principal secretary Suresh Kumar, Swachh Andhra MD Anil Kumar Reddy, chairman K Pattabhiram and commissioners from municipalities participated in the meeting.
