Vijayawada:What does it take to run a legislature? How are public issues debated and laws shaped? Nearly 200 students found answers to these questions when they visited the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly on Friday, turning a routine sitting day into a memorable civics lesson.
The young visitors closely observed the House proceedings, watching firsthand as elected representatives raised public concerns and participated in discussions. For many, it was their first glimpse into the functioning of what is often described as the “temple of democracy.”
During a brief recess, speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, deputy speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju, and MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao interacted with the students. The legislators encouraged them to pursue higher goals, excel in their studies, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development. They later posed for group photographs, much to the delight of the visiting students.
Sharing their experiences, the students said the tour had greatly enhanced their understanding of the democratic system and legislative processes.
