TIRUPATI: Temple authorities seized around 200 kg of meat and prohibited liquor during security checks at the Srisailam toll gate in Nandyal district on Thursday.
The inspections were carried out under the supervision of chief security officer Srinivasa Rao as part of intensified security measures at the entry point to the shrine. During the checks, security personnel found large quantities of chicken and mutton, along with liquor, being transported in violation of temple rules that strictly prohibit the entry of non-vegetarian food and alcohol within the shrine limits.
Officials said a few local residents were attempting to transport the items into the temple zone when they were intercepted at the toll gate. The vehicles were stopped, and the meat, liquor and two-wheelers used for transportation were seized on the spot and shifted to the security office.
Inquiries are under way to ascertain the purpose and destination of the seized items. Officials said strict enforcement of regulations would continue to maintain the sanctity of the temple surroundings and warned that violations would invite action as per rules.
