NELLORE: Municipal administration and urban development minister Ponguru Narayana revealed that a 200-day sterilisation of stray dogs is underway across Andhra Pradesh.

According to a survey, two lakh stray dogs have been identified across the state. Following the uproar over dogs continuing to bite humans, orders have been issued to sterilise at least 1,000 dogs per day, the minister stated while reviewing development projects in Nellore on Tuesday.

He instructed ward secretariat staff to identify children from families below the poverty line who have lost a parent and admit them into the VR High School at Nellore, which is being developed as a model institution.

“Let us fulfil the vision of reviving VR High School and pave the way for a golden future for underprivileged children,” Narayana underlined, highlighting the government’s commitment to education.

He also announced that an electric bus service will be introduced for students to commute, making it both safe and eco-friendly.

The minister directed civic body officials to construct community halls in large parks, underlining the importance of inclusive public spaces.

During the meeting, Narayana examined video clips showcasing work completed over the past week across 46 parks in the city. He issued clear instructions to municipal commissioner Surya Teja to immediately release payments to contractors who have completed their assigned tasks.
