₹18-cr Talakona Temple Renovation Works Launched

TIRUPATI: To provide better amenities and preserve its historic character, the renovation works on the Sri Siddeswara Swamy temple at Talakona in Tirupati district have been launched on Monday, following a Bhoomi Puja performed on the temple premises.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board chairman B.R. Naidu, who participated in the programme, said that the restoration of the temple was being taken up at the behest of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to preserve heritage temples and promote Sanatana Dharma.

As part of the ₹18-crore comprehensive development plan, the board chairman said, in the first phase, the Garbhalayam of the temple, the Ardha Mandapam, the shrine of Sri Parvati Devi and the Maha Mandapam will be renovated and the TTD has already sanctioned ₹2 crore for the same.

The subsequent phases will cover the Raja Gopuram, Mukha Mandapam, Nandi Mandapam, Navagraha Mandapam, sub-temples dedicated to Subramanyeswara, Vinayaka and Abhaya Anjaneya Swamy, Dhwaja Mandapam, Kalyana Katta, Pushkarini and other support structures. Additional funds will be released in phases as the works progress, according to the TTD.

The temple, located in the Yerravaripalem mandal, is visited by thousands of devotees, particularly during Maha Shivaratri, Karthika Masam and New Year festivities, when they also throng the Talakona waterfalls. Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani, collector Dr. S. Venkateswar, TTD trust board members, engineering officials and devotees were present.
