15 Government Schools Set For Major Upgradation in Nellore
“The upliftment of the poor remains at the heart of our governance,” minister P. Narayana said

Nellore: Public education in Nellore is set to receive a major boost, with 15 government schools to be upgraded on the VRC model, minister P. Narayana announced during his visit to V.R. High School here on Tuesday.
The minister, who reviewed academic standards and later toured the Vaikunthapuram slum, said the government was committed to transforming government schools into modern learning centres while ensuring that development reaches the most vulnerable sections of society.
At V.R. High School, Narayana interacted with students enrolled in foundation courses, reviewed teaching practices, and held discussions with education officials on strengthening academic delivery in city schools. He also inspected the ongoing construction of the school dining hall and awarded prizes to 15 students who excelled at a recent Science Fair.
Expressing satisfaction with the students’ performance, the minister said the encouraging results at V.R. High School had inspired the decision to upgrade 15 more government schools with modern facilities. He also announced plans to construct a fully equipped new school on five acres of Wakf Board land in Mansoor Nagar.
Stating that 6,500 students are currently enrolled in government schools across the city, Narayana said around 1,500 students had shown interest in foundation courses. He assured that Narayana study material would be provided free of cost to all such students.
“My mission is to ensure that children from economically weaker backgrounds receive quality education and equal opportunities,” he said.
Later in the day, Narayana fulfilled a promise made to residents of Vaikunthapuram slum by returning within a week to inspect flood-affected areas along with senior officials. Residents had earlier flagged severe waterlogging during the monsoon. During the inspection, officials identified 22 houses prone to frequent flooding, and the minister directed the administration to initiate early remedial measures.
Residents thanked the minister for acting promptly and honouring his assurance. Emphasising that improving slum conditions remains a key priority, Narayana cited the construction of a 20-storey residential complex under the PPP model for 170 families in Lakshmipuram slum, Visakhapatnam, as an example of the government’s commitment to urban upliftment.
“The upliftment of the poor remains at the heart of our governance,” he said.
Commissioner Nandan, in-charge mayor Roop Kumar Yadav, and former municipal chairperson Anuradha were present during the visit.
