13th Century Inscription Found at Gudimetla in Krishna Dist
Telugu-Sanskrit engraving reveals gifts for Lord Mallikarjuna and prayers for Chagi leaders

Vijayawada: An inscription of Chagi chief Ganapaya has been discovered engraved on three sides of a slab in the fields in Gudimetla village of Krishna district.
The engraving is written in Telugu and Sanskrit languages and Telugu characters of the 13th Century Common Era. It recorded the gift of several lands under the tank and also remittance of several taxes to the Lord Mulasthanam Mallikarjuna Mahadeva of Gudimetla for conduct of ‘Angrangabhogalu and special puja’ by Pridhvisetti, a leader of mercantile guild in the village for the merit of Chagi Dorayarajulu and Chagi Ganapaya, the ardent devotees of Yogananti Narashimadeva.
A librarian from NBKR Institute of Science and Technology, Vidyanagar, P. Rami Reddy, found the inscription and informed the Archaeological Survey of India about it.
