13-Year-Old Ongole Girl Earns First WIM Norm At International Chess Event
Earlier this year, Amukta represented India at the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship in Tajikistan, where she won gold in the rapid event and also secured additional medals in other formats.
Nellore: Guntaka Amukta, a Class 9 student of PVR Girls Government High School, Ongole, delivered an impressive performance at an international chess tournament held recently in Germany by securing her first Women International Master (WIM) norm.
At just 13, Amukta already holds the Women FIDE Master (WFM) title with a FIDE Elo rating of 2208. Competing against strong players from several countries, she achieved her maiden WIM norm, marking a major milestone in her journey towards higher international titles, including Woman Grandmaster.
In recognition of her achievement, Prakasam district collector P. Raja Babu felicitated and congratulated the young chess prodigy.
Earlier this year, Amukta represented India at the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship in Tajikistan, where she won gold in the rapid event and also secured additional medals in other formats. She has consistently finished on the podium in several national and state-level championships.
Balancing academics and sport, Amukta practices chess for four to five hours daily while continuing her studies at the government school in Ongole.
