10,350 Metric Tonnes of Urea Arrive at Gangavaram Port for AP Farms
Minister Atchannaidu assures smooth supply, more stock due in September

Vijayawada: In good news to farmers in AP, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu has announced that a consignment of 10,350 metric tonnes of urea reached the Gangavaram Port on Thursday.
He said the central government responded swiftly to a request to this effect from the AP government. “It supplied the urea to us a week in advance. It was originally scheduled to arrive at the port on September 6.” The consignment has been imported through Indian Potash Ltd.
Atchannaidu advised agriculture commissioner Dilli Rao to assess the crop requirements across districts and ensure that urea is supplied only to the areas with immediate agricultural needs, under the strict supervision of agriculture officials.
The minister said the Centre has promised AP another urea consignment of at least 25,000 metric tonnes by the first week of September. It would reach the Kakinada port.
Atchannaidu assured farmers that there was no need to worry about urea availability as sufficient quantities would be supplied for them this Kharif season. “However, purchase urea only as you’re your immediate crop requirements, and not for advance storage for the upcoming Rabi season,” he told the farmers.
He said the state government has tightened enforcement to prevent diversion of fertilizers to other states, or for black marketing, or sales at higher prices.
Joint inspection teams comprising agriculture, police, vigilance, revenue and industry officials are conducting checks under the supervision of district collectors and SPs.
