10-year recognition for private schools: Lokesh
The minister emphasised the coalition government’s commitment to addressing long-pending issues faced by private school owners

Vijayawada: Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh met with leaders of private school associations at his residence in Undavalli on Monday, where he discussed significant reforms to strengthen the state’s education system. The minister emphasised the coalition government’s commitment to addressing long-pending issues faced by private school owners. He announced that the government would extend the recognition period for private schools from the current term to ten years, fulfilling a promise made during the Yuvagalam Padayatra.
The minister further criticised the previous YSRC government’s education policies, stating that their inefficiencies had caused lakhs of students to shift from government to private schools. He proposed key reforms, including changes to the curriculum, enhancement of moral values, and increased support for both government and private educational institutions.
In turn, the associations have presented a list of requests, including extending the school recognition period to ten years, implementing a Campus Protection Act, and facilitating fire certificates, structural NOCs and sanitation certificates. They also called for opportunities for unqualified teachers to obtain D.El.ED, the extension of the validity of private school buses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the conversion of Telugu medium schools to English medium, loan facilities to budget schools and the introduction of talent awards for private school students.
Minister Nara Lokesh assured the associations that each suggestion would be thoroughly examined. "We are moving forward by taking everyone's opinions into account," he stated, emphasising a collaborative approach to educational reform.
