KAKINADA: Unidentified miscreants snatched 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments from an 80-year-old woman, Ch. Sitha Devi, in broad daylight on Friday.
According to sources, the victim, a former health inspector in the Medical and Health Department, lives alone in the Gandhinagar area. On Friday afternoon, after her relatives had left, she locked the doors from inside and was preparing to have lunch when a man repeatedly knocked on the door.
When she opened it, the man claimed to be from the electricity department and said he needed to check the power usage. He asked her to increase the TV volume, saying he wanted to inspect the electrical connections. As she turned to raise the volume, he snatched the gold ornaments from her neck.

Neighbours alerted the police, and Clues Team personnel rushed to the spot and began an investigation. CCTV footage showed the accused heading towards Pratap Nagar. Two Town police registered a case.
