10 Cases of Diarrhoea Reported from Vuyyuru in Krishna District

Water, food samples sent to lab in Chennai

Vijayawada:As many as 10 cases of diarrhoea have been reported from Vuyyuru, Katuru, Bollapadu and other areas of Vuyyur mandal in Krishna district in the last three days. Of these, two cases have been discharged while the rest are undergoing treatment.

According to Krishna district health officer Dr PL Dayakar, five cases of diarrhoea were reported in Vuyyuru village on August 19. In the next two days, five cases were reported from Katuri, Bollapadu and other areas.

The district health authorities have set up two medical camps and started a house-to-house survey to ascertain the health condition of the people involving ANMs and ASHA workers from August 19 --with one more medical camp to be set up and house-to-house survey to be taken up from Saturday.

Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the diarrhoea cases at Vuyyuru. He took stock of the development and issued directions to ensure proper healthcare.

Municipal administration minister P Narayana visited the government hospital at Vuyyuru and interacted with the patients at Ward 5. “We are examining any contamination of the water through pipeline or through RO plants that caused diarrhea,” he said and ruled out a presence of bacteria in the water during first tests.

The minister said, “We are taking up drinking water supply works under AMRUT 2.0 at a cost of `98 crore by laying new pipelines at Vuyyuru so that the people could get potable water supply.”

Meanwhile, food safety authorities collected four samples of water from houses of the affected people and five samples of food from nearby hotels and sent them to the food lab in Chennai for analysis. They noticed nearly 10kg of gobi manchurian and chicken prepared by using banned synthetic and destroyed it. A notice was served on the hotel.
