Once in a blue moona triple lunar bonanza

There hasn't been a triple line-up like this since 1982 and the next won't occur until 2037.

On Wednesday, most of the world will get to see not only a blue moon and a supermoon, but also a total lunar eclipse, all rolled into one. And the moon comes to its closest point to the earth at just over 223,000 miles (359,000 kilometers).

There hasn't been a triple line-up like this since 1982 and the next won't occur until 2037.

A super moon is when the moon comes closest to earth and so appears bigger. This super moon is expected to be 30% brighter and 14% bigger than normal. Being the second full moon in the month which will be completely lunar eclipsed, it is also a ‘Blue Moon’. And this only happens once every 150 years!.

So, get out on the balconies and open spaces, folks, or head to the Nehru Planetarium, when the moon will begin to manifest as a blue moon and a supermoon. The total eclipse begins at approximately 6:21pm on Wednesday and ends at 7:38 pm.
