Stephen Hawking warns against 'replying to alien signals'

If aliens visit us, the outcome could be like when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans, he said.

Physicist Stephen Hawking has warned his fellow Earth mates to be cautious about sending back signals in response to aliens.

In an online show, named ‘Stephen Hawking’s Favourite Places’, Stephen Hawking revealed his fears over extraterrestrial civilization who may conquer Earth.

In the online show, the renowned astrophysicist takes viewers on his CGI spacecraft to about five relevant locations across the cosmos. During the tour he mentioned that a planet like Gliese 832c, located approximately 16 light-year away from Earth, could one day possibly send signals to our planet, however “we should be wary of replying” to them.

Even “if aliens visit us, the outcome could be much like when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans,” Professor Hawking said.

“Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach,” he added.
