Andhra Pradesh: Workshop on Toxin neurology held
Visakhapatnam: Gitam Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research’s neurology department conducted a workshop on Therapeutic Indications of Botulinum Toxin in Neurology on Saturday. Organising Chairman- Dr Butchiraju (HOD of Neurology), Organising Secretary Dr Vijaya Bhaskar DM and workshop convenor Dr Goutham, MD coordinated the event. The chief guest was Dr Vengamma,(Former Director of SVIMS, HOD of Neurology, SVIMS) while Dr Shankar Prasad DM, Dr Naveen DM, Dr Sampath DM were the key resource persons of the workshop.
According to experts, Botulinum toxin inhibits release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction and in cholinergic sympathetic and parasympathetic neurons. Injections helps relax tired muscles and control hypersecretion of the glands supplied by cholinergic neurons. It starts acting within three to seven days and lasts for four to six months.
