CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos in a talk at Seattle’s Museum of Flight0 this week revealed Space firm Blue Origin’s ambition of setting up a full-fledged, permanent city on the Moon in the coming future.
Geek Wire quoted him as saying, “I think we should build a permanent human settlement on one of the poles of the Moon. It’s time to go back to the Moon, but this time to stay.”
To recall, Jeff Bezos earlier this year announced his plans to ship packages to Moon by 2020 in order to support human settlement on that planet.
“There’s a long history of tourism and entertainment driving innovations in technology,” he said at the Q&A session with children at the museum. He mentioned that advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence are being driven by improvements in graphics processing units (GPUs).
“Why were GPUs invented? For one purpose, and one purpose only: They were invented by Nvidia for playing video games.”
Jeff Bezos-backed Blue Origin is currently working on a BE-4 engine for its New Glenn rockets that the firm plans on testing in the span of next three years. “The vehicle will fly in 2020 for the first time,” he said.
When asked about the link between artificial intelligence and space, Bezos replied, “AI will help to develop even better robotic probes to explore the solar system.”...
