Solar farms do not need Green study

The Union ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued a circular to all state governments to this effect.

Hyderabad: The Centre has said that that environment impact assessment (EIA) is not applicable for solar power projects and to development of solar parks.

The Union ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued a circular to all state governments to this effect. The ministry of environment, forest and climate (EFCC) change had in July issued a notification on applicability of EIA to the sector.

The MNRE said that the EFCC ministry has clarified that EIA provisions were not applicable to the sector. It further clarified that the disposal of Photo Voltaic (PV) cell attracts the rules covering hazardous and other wastes. The development of solar parks shall attract the provisions of Water and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, the MNRE said in a notification in August.
