Video | Watch the fascinating time-lapse video of the Milky Way in 4K

The video was made up of 12,400 photos shot from the California wilderness.

In an epic time-lapse video, San Diego photographer Michael Shainblum has stitched 12,400 photographs together to make a single video of the Milky Way. The video includes photos from 19 different destinations, including the forests of Yosemite in California.

"Rather than hit all the famous landscapes you've seen a million times, I wanted to showcase the ambiance and the emotion of these specific places," Shainblum he said in an interview with The Creator’s Project.

They say that the most awe-inspiring moments happen at night. Shainblum drove a few hours outside of San Diego in order to capture the star-studded night skies. "I could literally see with my own eyes the galactic core of the Milky Way," he says. “Someone grab my suitcase. I'm going to California.”

Check out his work in the time-lapse video below. Additionally, there are a few more videos below which feature the Milky Way in 4K.

The video was created after a project that lasted around a year, shooting almost 75,000 images. Of these, 12,400 photos made it into the stunning 3.5-minute video. Reminiscent of timelapse classic, Shainblum's work managed to hypnotizes his viewers with the footage of giant fog banks that can be seen from the mountain tops. With Gods rays shooting into the middle of the desert, and cloud-covered seascapes all throughout the west coast, the images are stunningly beautiful.

The artist broke down his creative process to The Creators Project in their documentary about how and where he makes his work. Check out the video below that shows how the artist works.

He does not use any special gear for his photographs. All he needs is a simple DSLR camera, a wide lens, a mechanical dolly system and some serious photo editing skills.

Shainblum's post on Facebook has received 266,000 views and 21,000 likes since it was posted this month.
