Nellore: A Lander designed for Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-2 mission is designed to travel at a speed of 2,000 km per hour.
ISRO former chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan revealed this while addressing the employees of Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on the occasion of the World Space Week observance on Thursday.
He said that the technology in Chandrayaan-2 mission would give further boost to the reputation of ISRO while pointing to the advanced design incorporated in Lander and Rover in the mission. He said that the entire world is looking at SHAR since it is getting ready for manned mission in the next four years. Radhakrishnan maintained that the objective of ISRO is to ensure that the benefits of space technology will reach the common man.
SHAR director S. Pandian said that the pictures of recent floods in Kerala and Indonesia captured by the ISRO Satellites helped the officials concerned to take up rehabilitation measures.
He said that space technology will be a very useful tool during calamities while pointing to the role of communication satellites.
