SC Orders APSRTC to Pay ₹9 Crore to Family of Woman Killed in Accident
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court has ordered the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to pay Rs 9,64,52,220 in compensation to the family of a woman killed in a road accident in 2009.
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra.
Lakshmi Nagalla, a US resident with a Master's degree in Computer Science, was travelling with her husband and two daughters in a car on June 13, 2009, when their vehicle was struck by an APSRTC bus near Annavaram. Lakshmi, who earned $11,600 per month in the United States, succumbed to her injuries.
Her husband filed a claim for compensation of Rs 9 crore with the Secunderabad Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, citing his wife's high earning potential. The tribunal awarded Rs 8.05 crore in compensation.
However, the APSRTC challenged this order in the Telangana High Court, which reduced the compensation amount to Rs 5.75 crore.
The husband subsequently appealed to the Supreme Court, which upheld the tribunal's award and ordered to pay Rs 9,64,52,220.
