There are people who get more than just upset after they are rejected by a potential mate. Researchers claim that this is because such people view such unsuccessful endeavors as revealing something about ‘who they really are’ as a person. They even warn that those negative feelings could even have the potential to ruin future relationships.
The study, conducted by a team from Stanford University, involved observing 891 participants over the course of five studies. Each person filled out online surveys about hypothetical rejections and real-life rejections. It was found that those who had a fixed mind-set about their personality actually allowed the rejection to linger.
The researchers also discovered that people who felt that rejection revealed a new defect were worried that this defect might end up affecting future relationships, according to a report published in the Daily Mail.
